World's top U18 Runners in Italy for World Youth Cup
Under 18 Years old runners are preparing their National team uniforms and checking their shoes and making their final training preparations for this weekends World Youth Challenge that takes place in Lanzada, ITALY. Located in the far North of Italy right on the Swiss border it is a spectacular alpine village surrounded by high mountains and alpine meadows.
The races take place on this coming Saturday morning June 16 with the 2 Cup races at 11am and 11.45am. There is a round number of exactly 100 runners on the startline with a 49 girls and 51 boys entered. A maximum of 4 runners in each grade is possible and the countries fielding a full contingent of 8 runners each include: England, USA, France, Romania, Turkey, Wales and of course the host nation of Italy. It will be hard to look past the Italians at home to take medals but in the past Romania and Turkey have always shown to be consistently strong in the younger grades. For the second year running USA will make the long journey across to race and their programme for bringing on good young Mountain runners is a good example to follow.
“Team USA athletes have arrived in Europe and are eagerly anticipating this weekend’s competition,” said team staffer Mark Weeks. “We have a talented and accomplished squad and hope to be in medal contention. Joslin Blair, who competed at last year's Youth Cup, is racing well as is our entire girls' team. On the boys' side, our top runners are Gabriel Dinnel and Jaden Evans, who are compting in the Youth Cup for the first time."
