On next August 11, in Colombia, at the venue of the Canon of Chicamocha in Aratoca, Santader Region, there will be the 7. CONSUDATLE Mountain Running Championships, Continental event with an amount of about 15 millions of pesos (about 6.750,00 euros) like prizes.
Announced the presence of runners coming from eight South American Nations and in particular from , Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador, Chile, Peru, Bolivia and, of course, host Country, Colombia.
The race will be valid also as selection race for the teams in preparation of the next 28. WMRA World Mountain Running Championships that will be held in Italy (Temù, - Ponte di Legno, Vallecamonica) on next September 2, 2012." "Together the races valid for the Continental Championships there will run also races for ",Juvenil", (athletes born in 1993 and 1994) and for ",Veteranos", (athletes with more than 40 years).
The track of the race will be prepared at Aratoca, about 70 km. from the town of Bucaramanga.
",Aratoca", name comes from the Guane Indigenous expression ",Ana Toca", meaning ",high above the river",. This is a coffee growing region in close proximity (12km) to the breathtaking Chicamocha Canyon - nominated as one of the ",Seven New Natural Wonders of The World",.
",El Cañ,ó,n del Chicamocha", - formerly covered by an inland sea - was formed 46 million years ago and reaches depths of 2,000m (6,562ft) in some locations (making it one of the world's deepest gorges). It serves as a challenging location for adventurous hikes and multi-day river rafting adventures. It can also be seen ",from above", via:",Teleferico", (cable car)-a 22-min, 6.3km scenic journey from canyon rim - to - river - to - canyon rim.
The race will be about 8 km, mainly uphill, the predicted temperature is around 19 degrees Celsius.
Each national senior team will be formed by maximum five runners and three of them will count for the team result. Also in the ",Juvenil", category there will be a team list: maximum three athletes at the start of which two will count for the team result.
The men winner will receive 2 million of pesos instead the winner women will win one and half million of pesos.
The Colombian National Athletic Federation, together Olympic Colombian Committee and the Athletic League of Santander, by sport front, and Richard Aguilar Villa, Santander's Governor, and the Administration of the National park of Chicamocha and Idesan, give a great support for the organization of the event and these people are waiting for organizing in the future a world event in this beautiful place.
