28. World Mountain Running Championships 2012 in Italy: from Tem

"The WMRA is delighted to announce like venue of the 28. World Mountain Running Championships 2012 the villages of Temù, (1.144 m.s.l.) and of Ponte di Legno (1.258 m.s.l.) and the experienced LOC under the direction of mr. Innocente Agostini, father of Andrea Agostini winner of the World Junior men title in the 5. World Mountain Running Trophy on 1989 at Die (France). FIDAL - just a few days ago - sent official application bid for this event.
The candidate venue has previously held many high quality national competitions and will again prove an outstanding host with the support of event sponsors that include, among others, Lombardia Region and Comunità, Montana Valle Camonica. " "

This is the seven time that World Mountain Running Championships will be held in Italy and this is a record: other Italian edition were San Vigilio Marebbe (1985), Morbegno (1986), Valle di Susa (Susa, Bardonechia e Chiomonte: 1992), Arta Terme (2001), Sauze d'Oulx (2004) e Valchiavenna (Campodolcino e Madesimo: 2009).
The date of the 28. World Mountain Running Championships is planned for 2. September 2012 and will feature uphill racing over distances of 13km for Men, 7.9km for Women and Junior Men and 4.1 km for Junior Women. With Hotels and the race venue being all in the town of Ponte di Legno, the 2012 World Mountain Running Championships will see a great competitions from the best athletes. Tonale pass - the place where the races will finish - is located at 1.884 meters sea level.
This Italian candidature was born thanking an idea by WMRA Council member, Raimondo Balicco.
WMRA Council, following decision by WMRA Congress in Tirana, has already approved this Italian candidature and during next WMRA Council meeting on next 14. January 2012, the WMRA Organisational Delegate and the WMRA Technical Delegate will be appointed.
In the meantime, WMRA remind that 29. World Mountain Running Championships 2013 is already staged on 8. September 2013 in Krynica - Zdró,j, Poland.
