2017WCGBallon3womenAfter his dominance in Arco and Bludenz, Eritrean runner Petro MAMU was the absolute favourite on the start line in Willer-sur-Thur.
Finally he did not disappoint at the third World Cup race in 2017. ù
When he crossed the finish line on the top of Vosges’s, the stop watch was showing just 2 seconds less than one hour.
After winning with 57:36 in 2014 on almost the same course the winning time is not impressive, but was enough for a clear win.
After 4km of the 13,2km long course with 1160m elevation gain that includes also 110 m of descent, he felt stronger than his closest opponents.
French Rancon was his closest opponent. Italian Baldacini looked tired after the race in Arco, where his motivation was on the highest level.

WMRA logoWMRA Council believes that it could be useful for all to remind the next more important deadline for the four most important competitions in the WMRA Calendar,
together the race in the WMRA World Cup 2017.
In summary situation is the following:

WCup2017 1r winnermPetro Mamu and Valentina Belotti were clear winners of the first stage of the 2017 Mountain Running World Cup.
Since the race in Arco was one of the Italian National Championships races and also served as their nation's trial race for the European Championships, the Italian top runners were present.
They were among the more than 250 runners from 8 countries participating in the senior categories.

2017wc1logoOn Sunday morning, May 28, Bolognano-Velo will open the World Cup WMRA season with an uphill race that is part of the tradition of one of the most historic races in the Italian landscape.
The men's race, the longest competition, will be of 11.1km with a 1272m difference of overall altitude, the same that divides Bolognano a quarter of the city of Arco, Garda Trentino, home to the 2016 European Championships, from the quarter Sant'Antonio, at 1260 m at the foot of the Mount Stivo.

2017councilAfter the end of more than 20 years of my activity inside WMRA, before as Secretary (12 years) and then as President (8 years), I am very happy that thanks to the collaboration of many people starting from WMRA Councillors and the leaders of many athletics federations in the world, the mountain race has made great strides by becoming a well-known and well-trained athletics discipline.
World Championships Senior, Junior and Master, International Youth Cup plus World Cup Circuit and many Area or Zone Championships are yearly events very important.
My personal fear is that in the future the mountain race will lose its identity and its features and be confused with other activities: I hope really that this will not happen!!!
Important is the correct information about mountain running for the future but it is also necessary to save the history of mountain running, starting from the results of the past events.
These goals are possible through a good webpage. These are the reasons why during 2017, before election to renovate the WMRA Council that will be held at the end of July, a new webpage was prepared and acted.
